ESSCC National Specialty 2016 -Breed Judge - Wayne Douglas – Australia
I first became involved in the world of showing dogs in 1977 with an English Cocker Spaniel. In 1979 I moved in to the Hound Group with the first of what was to become many Afghan Hounds. In 1983 the English Springer Spaniel “Ch Wongan Southn Silk” arrived returning my involvement with the Gundog group. In 1984 I obtained my first exhibition greyhound and soon followed by importing the first of two from Dagmar Kenis’ “Solstrand” Kennels in England. Ch Solstrand Vanity Fair and Ch Racey Lacey from Darquell both went on to Win All Breeds BIS’s as well as producing Champions including several BIS winners. In the early 90’s American Cockers were added to “MY” breeds, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel joined the team late in 2004. In 2007 I imported the English Springer Spaniel from Ann Corbett in the UK, Ch Trimere Tactical Move.
Currently I am successfully campaigning the Afghan Hound “Supreme Ch Alaqadar Rigoletto (AI)”, a Multiple All Breeds Best in Show, Multiple All Breeds Runner-Up Best in Show & Afghan Specialty BIS &Runner-Up Best in Show winner. He is also the Winner of Victoria's Top Show Dog of the Year 2014 and is Australia’s TOP HOUND and Top Afghan for 2015 being the No 1 Australian Bred Dog for 2015. Riggs also won the 2016 National Afghan Hound Specialty and is a Multi Specialty BIS winner. He is co-owned with Dr Arnold Tan.
In all I have owned/bred/exhibited 27 Australian champions and have had specialty challenge and Royal show challenge winners in 4 of my breeds. These include Numerous All Breeds Best In Show winners as well as Specialty Best in Show winners and Runner Best In show at the 2002 Afghan National Specialty from the junior class. I am not a prolific breeder but I enjoy handling and judging. As well as my own dogs, I handle (and own) Miniature Long Haired Dachshunds, as well as Afghan Hounds. I have also handled many other breeds over the years I have been involved in the dog world.
I was granted my Hound Championship Judges license in 1990, and have now added Gundogs in 2005, Non-Sporting in 2006, Toys in 2007, Terriers in 2008 and the Utility group in 2009. I have now added the Working group which gives me my All Breeds Status.
I have been very fortunate to have been invited to judge throughout Australia and have judges my breeds at specialty level as well as judging at Group and Best In Show level. I have also been able to judge my breeds internationally and have been invited to judge Breed, Group and Best in Show levels in the USA, Germany, Denmark, New Zealand, Ireland, Sweden, England, Scotland, Malaysia, Indondesia and the Phillipines.
I have also been invited to judge in Japan in November this year for the first time.
I and very excited to be judging in Canada for the first time and look forward to it especially with the opportunity to judge several specialties including the English Springer National.
